Racetrack Oval Rose Dome

Thursday, November 20th, 2014

SolariumDesignGroup-3

At 4′ x 8′ our custom dome is the central feature in a grand foyer of an exquisite condo located in down town Toronto. Colourful roses wound on a trellis create a garden feeling, and a geometric pattern matching the parquetry of the hardwood floor below frames the dome. The home owner (who is also a designer) selected the lovely range of coral hues in the roses to coordinate with other interior elements. The entire effect is striking.

SolariumDesignGroup-Dome-3012A

Our most recent dome has just gone into a new home in Toronto’s Hogg’s Hollow. We worked with Douglas Design to bring their design sketch to the finished product. The simple repetition of the line work creates a quiet focal point. The design reminds me of a classic orangerie.

Preparing for a dome or flat lens. The contractor finishes the skylight shaft and provides a ledge or molding for the dome or lens to sit on. If a plaster molding is used, the dome or lens can be fastened to the walls of the shaft.
